The AVID Mission
The AVID mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college and success in a global society.
The purpose of AVID is to ensure that all students follow a college preparatory path and:

In addition to binder checks, tutorial and collaborative study groups, we will focus on a variety of topics throughout the year to ensure your success on path to a four-year university. Some of these topics include:
Requirements
Your continued participation in AVID requires your commitment to maintaining a 2.67 GPA and enrolling in rigorous, college prep courses throughout your high school career. You have made a commitment to AVID at minimum of 1-year, but it is best if you participate in the program for four years. You are responsible for following all requirements detailed on your signed contract. If you fail to maintain the minimum requirements, you will be put on probation; if you fail to improve while on probation, you may be dropped from AVID.

NOTE: Class participation is based on your involvement in discussions and activities and your effort on all assignments. Participation also takes into consideration your behavior and attendance. In order to participate, you must come to class prepared with your course materials. In order to be successful, you must participate!

- Participate in mainstream school activities
- Be eligible to attend a 4-year university
- Become responsible and educated participants and leaders in a democratic society
AVID 3 Areas of Focus

The following are the classroom policies:
- Cell phones must be placed in cell phone box upon entering class.
- Failing to bring your Chromebook to class 3 or more times in semester will result in grade reduction.
The following are the teacher’s expectations of student behavior:
- Come to class on time, prepared with a positive attitude and with all materials everyday.
- Be honest with yourself, your parents, your classmates and your teacher.
- Respect the ideas, beliefs and opinions expressed in the classroom.
- Contribute politely - raise your hand when appropriate, allow others to speak, listen attentively.
The following are the student’s expectations of teacher behavior:
- Expect me to advocate for you and help you navigate high school and the college application process.
- Expect me to support you, help you and be a liaison between you and your teachers.
- Expect me to be in regular contact with your teachers and parents.
- Expect me to maintain high expectations for you with respect to character, academics and behavior and implement appropriate consequences if you fail to meet these expectations.
